JORDAN ZEMURA says he is honoured to have made his English Premier League debut in the season’s opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Zimbabwean played the entire 90 minutes and was superb, helping the Cherries dismiss Villa 2-0.
“I’m blessed and honoured to be able to play,” he told The Bournemouth Echo.
“I can only thank the club, thank the gaffer, thank the coaching staff, and thank my family for putting me in this place,” he said.
On the victory, Zemura said:
“I think that was massive for us because as a defensive unit we always try.
“We’re really close on the field, off the field, so to get a clean sheet is really nice for us.
“And, personally, it’s always good to start the season with a clean sheet.
“It’s a moment I won’t forget for sure.”
The 22-year-old became only the sixth Zimbabwean to play in the English top-flight.
The young fullback joins Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari, Peter Ndlovu (Coventry City), Brendan Galloway (Everton) and Bruce Grobbelaar (Liverpool) as the only fully-capped Warriors’ internationals to play in the EPL.
Zemura also became the sixth Cherries academy graduate to represent the club in the top-flight, following in the footsteps of Baily Cargill, Matt Worthington, Jack Simpson, Sam Surridge and Mark Travers.
Zemura’s team play champions Manchester City in their next game.
