FORMER Highlanders’ FC deadly striker Zenzo Moyo has been tipped to become the first team’s welfare manager under the new technical set up led by Dutchman Erol Akbay.

Moyo, who had a brief stint as team manager during the reign of Ernest “Maphepha” Sibanda, has reportedly been offered the welfare manager’s post by the club’s leadership.

However, Highlanders’ chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede was adamant that Vezigama Dlodlo would continue as welfare manager this season.

“Nothing is changing. Vezigama will be our manager. As a matter of fact, that boy is very effective and we can’t change him for the sake of change,” said Gumede.

Club sources though said the executive was keen to rope in the 2000 Soccer Star of the Year and Golden boot winner into the Bosso technical structures.

“The chairman wants Zenzo to be team manager. I think they’re aware that he’ll add that much needed motivational spirit within the team, especially since a new coach is coming on board,” said the source.

Moyo, who had been tipped to run for the vice-chairmanship in elections next month before the latest development, would not comment on the issue.

Meanwhile, Retired Colonel Kenneth Mhlophe, who runs Nokel Security in Bulawayo, has emerged as the odds on favourite for the Highlanders’ vice-chairmanship’s post.

Mhlophe is likely to lock horns with the incumbent Mgcini Sibhalo Mpofu and the club’s Harare Supporters’ Chapter boss Morden Ngwenya.

Highlanders will hold elections for the vice-chairman and treasurer’s posts on February 7. City businessman Donald Ndebele holds the treasurer’s post and is almost certain to seek another mandate.

Another supporters’ chapter boss Morgan Dube from Victoria Falls has also been touted as a possible candidate for the vice-chairman’s post and so has former Highlanders’ Sports Club manager and headmaster at a private school in Matabeleland South, Marko Dube.

No other candidates have emerged for the treasurer’s post leaving Ndebele as the odds on favourite to retain his post unchallenged, although some members are reportedly rooting for Methuseli Mafu.
