HIGHLANDERS have lost just once all season, are unbeaten in their last six matches and sit within touching distance of the Premier Soccer League summit.
Yet the noise around Bosso tells a different story.
With supporters growing impatient over a flood of draws, team manager Zenzo Moyo has moved to defend Benjani Mwaruwari and his backroom staff, describing the current technical team as one of the strongest assembled at the club in years.
The former Soccer Star of the Year believes the foundations of a successful side are already being laid as Highlanders continue their centenary celebrations.
Mwaruwari is working alongside former Bosso stars Bekithemba Ndlovu, Mkokheli Dube, and Ariel Sibanda in a technical set-up packed with experience, championship pedigree, and deep ties to the club.
For Moyo, that combination matters.
“Our fans have to be patient. Over the years, I think this is one of the best technical teams our club has assembled when we talk about experience,” Moyo told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
The statistics support part of his argument. Sunday’s 2-1 victory over FC Hunters at Barbourfields extended Bosso’s unbeaten run to six matches. Highlanders have collected 11 points from their last five games, a return matched only by fellow in-form sides Scottland and Herentals.
They have also suffered just one defeat in 15 league matches this season, a significant improvement from the same stage last year when they had already lost three times.
Yet Highlanders remain outside the top six largely because they have struggled to turn resilience into victories.
Their 10 draws are the highest tally in the league.
Moyo believes that records should be viewed differently.
“At the end of the day, people must not judge us by the number of draws that we have picked up.
“Remember, we have lost just once this season.
“We know what we are doing. There is no need for people to press the panic button.
“People should look at the bigger picture. We have lost once, and it shows we are building something.
“The technical team is cooking something special as we celebrate 100 years.
“We are calling for patience and more patience.”
Moyo says the current coaching structure brings together men who understand both the demands of Highlanders and what it takes to win.
“Beke has won three or four championships, Mkokheli has won five championships, and I have won three.
“Ariel was one of the longest-serving players at Highlanders, while coach Mwaruwari played at the highest level.
“So we are talking about people who know what they are doing. It’s not like we were picked from the streets.”
Highlanders currently sit seventh on the table, but the gap between themselves and the leaders is far from alarming.
Bosso are only six points behind pacesetters Hardrock and remain firmly in the title conversation despite a campaign built more on avoiding defeat than collecting maximum points.
In a league where consistency has proved elusive for many of the traditional heavyweights, Highlanders have quietly kept themselves within striking distance.
The next step is obvious.
If Bosso can start turning some of those draws into wins, the patience Moyo is demanding from the club’s supporters may yet prove worthwhile.
