LEADING stationery supplier, Zero Suppliers have reaffirmed the sponsorship of primary schools athletics in the Matabeleland region this year.
Bulawayo-based company has made strides in junior athletics in partnership with the National Association of Primary Heads (Naph) over the years, sponsoring them with medals for the athletes.
Clemence Kunzekweguta, the Zero Suppliers managing director said the company is definitely looking forward to sponsoring the three provinces Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South.
Zero Suppliers have enjoyed a long and rich history of funding schools athletics which has spanned close to two decades.
“The company is confirming and reaffirming that it will be sponsoring this year’s primary schools athletics in the three provinces of the Matabeleland region. Sponsorship packages will be accordance with the requirements presented by Naph for the provinces but the company promises to chip in and assist where we can,’’ Kunzekweguta said.
Kunzekweguta indicated that the sponsorship deal includes medals, t-shirts and other equipment needed on the day. There are plans to partner with other players in the industry through the Booksellers Association of Zimbabwe but if others are not keen, Zero Suppliers will go it alone.
“We will be sponsoring the schools with medals, t-shirts and other equipment that will come in handy. I am still negotiating with my colleagues through the chairperson Paul Masuku to come on board as Booksellers Association of Zimbabwe but if they do not come through we will go it alone as usual,’’ Kunzekweguta said.
“The main aim behind the sponsorship of athletics at primary schools level is to give back to the community and to show our support to the schools, while establishing our company as the vibrant book sellers, distributors and other stationery equipment.’’
Kunzekweguta said in the past years, there have been other key sponsors like Nestle Zimbabwe who are doing quite a lot for schools athletics and as Zero Suppliers, they also support in a small way to augment the efforts of the main funders.
Kunzekweguta is a former vice-president of then Matabeleland Amateur Athletics Board where he deputised Joseph Mungwari. He has written a number of articles and presented papers on the importance of athletics.
