LEADING bookseller, Zero Supplies said it is resuming its sponsorship of primary schools athletics in Matabeleland region.
The Bulawayo-based company pulled out of sports sponsorship five years ago.
Managing director, Clemence Kunzekweguta said the company was looking forward to introducing a number of sponsorship packages for the three provinces of Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North for competitions under the National Association of Primary School Heads.
Zero Supplies has a long and rich history of sponsoring schools athletics spanning close to two decades.
“We boast of being one if not the first company in the country to give school athletes medals and we endeavour to see athletes making it large in the world of sports,” Kunzekweguta said.
Kunzekweguta was part of the officials that witnessed the qualification competition for the Bulawayo Province’s Naph team on Friday last week at White City Stadium. He also briefly attended the Matabeleland South Province competition on the same day at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda.
“We had stopped sponsoring athletics due to the hyperinflationary environment that ended in 2009 following the introduction of multi-currency. Now that we’re able to sustain our business we’ve decided to plough back to the community which supports us.
“We’ve over the years been sponsoring Bulawayo Province and next year we’re going to extend our sponsorship to Matabeleland South where we also enjoy good support and thereafter we will do the same in Matabeleland North,” he said.
Kunzekweguta is the former vice president of Matabeleland Amateur Athletics Board and has written a number of articles and paper presentations on the importance of athletics.
This year’s Naph nationals will be held at Trojan Mine Stadium in Bindura, Mashonaland Central Province on 25 and 26 this month.
