ZESA Holdings has embarked on a comprehensive nationwide Domestic Energy Survey and Load Profiling Study to collect data on household power usage patterns, domestic solar uptake, and consumer appliance habits.

The two-month field exercise, running throughout October and November 2026, will see designated ZESA Research Enumerators deployed to sample residential properties in high-, medium-, and low-density suburbs across the country.

According to a public notice issued by the power utility, the study is designed to give engineers and grid planners clearer insights into household energy mixes as the country works to optimise power distribution and build a more resilient national grid.

“The purpose of the survey is gathering data on household appliance timings, solar systems, and energy mixes to help the utility improve grid reliability, optimise power distribution, and plan for future energy needs,” the utility stated.

The exercise comes at a time when an increasing number of Zimbabwean households have turned to off-grid rooftop solar, gas, and battery storage solutions to supplement grid power, shifting traditional peak-demand hours and altering consumption profiles across urban and rural centres.

To safeguard residents against potential tricksters or security risks, the utility urged householders to strictly verify the credentials of field personnel before granting them entry or disclosing information.

ZESA assured the public that all authorised enumerators will carry dual identification—an official ZESA identity card accompanied by their personal Zimbabwean National Identity Document.

The power company also addressed privacy concerns, promising that all data gathered during the door-to-door survey will be handled under strict confidentiality protocols and restricted exclusively to research and infrastructure management.

Members of the public seeking to verify enumerators or inquire about the survey in their neighborhoods can reach the ZESA National Contact Centre on toll-free shortcode 704, direct lines 08688003485/6, or landline 0242 704040.
