ZESA has opened an after hours prepaid meter purchase point in Bulawayo to bring convenience to its customers and also ease congestion at its outlets.
The move comes at a time when long, winding queues have become a common feature at the Zesa banking hall in the city centre.
The long queues are caused by a limited number of Zesa outlets, which are failing to cope with the overwhelming number of electricity users from the city centre and residential areas.
The new electricity purchase point was opened at the Zesa Halco House revenue offices along Fife Street and 10th Avenue in the city centre.
In a notice yesterday, Zesa western region general manager Lovemore Chinaka said the point of sale would be open up to 8pm during the week and from 12 noon to 4pm during weekends.
“ZEDTC Western Region has with immediate effect opened an after hours pre-paid meter tokens vending point at Halco House revenue offices along Fife Street and 10th Avenue in the city centre for the convenience of our valued pre-paid metered customers.
“From Monday to Friday the point of sale will be opened from 3.30pm to 8pm, while on Saturdays it will be opened from 12 noon to 4pm. On Sundays it will be opened at 8am and close at 1pm,” said Chinaka.
He said the main banking hall at Halco House would be open on Saturdays from 8am to 12noon.
Since last year, Zesa has been installing pre-paid meters and energy saving bulbs in a bid to inculcate a culture of energy saving and to ensure guaranteed cash inflows as consumers pay in advance.
The power utility said it aims to have installed 600,000 units by year-end and be able to ease the country’s power shortages.
