BULAWAYO Volleyball Association (BVA) newcomers Zesa Western Region men’s team have promised fireworks as they want to qualify for the national league in their maiden season.Zimbabwe Volleyball Association will be holding play-offs for the national league later this month.
Zesa coach Berth Mapani said as a new club they are dreaming big and they want to set the bar high in their first season.
“We are a new team, but we are hopeful we will achieve big in our maiden season. Qualifying for the national league will be our main aim and we are confident of achieving that,” he said.
Mapani was bubbling with confidence after his team was unbeaten in the BVA pre-season tournament held at Raylton Sports Club last weekend.
Zesa thumped Raiders 2-0 and Jesse Mine by the same scoreline in the group stages. They went on to overpower Cresta 3-0 in the semi-finals.
In the final bad light forced the match to be called off while Zesa were leading Gweru outfit Tigers 2-1.
“We got a good team. Most of our players are students, so we believe as a young and strong side we are capable of achieving big this season. We hope our manager and the company are going to continue supporting us all the way,” said Mapani.
Keith Machakaire, Ayanda Bhebhe, Trevor Sibanda and Murphery Chindungo are expected to carry Zesa’s hopes.
Six clubs took part in the BVA pre-season tournament Zesa, Raiders, Jesse Mine, Cresta, Tigers and Elephant.
