MUSIC star Leonard “Karikoga” Zhakata left fans in awe when he gave a top class performance at the Family Gospel Show held by musicians under the United Family International Church at the City Sports Centre over the weekend. The phenomenal lyricist who is popularly known for his secular music received tremendous applause from the dominantly religious gathering when he performed some of his yesteryear hits.
Fans were kept on their feet throughout the show as Zhakata played classics “Kundiso”, “Gomba Remarara” and “Ariko”

He also spiced his act with songs from his forthcoming gospel album which include the widely accepted “Makomborero”.
Zhakata’s act proved beyond doubt that he remains a strong force in the entertainment industry even at a stage when he is evolving into gospel music.

Zhakata, who is now a devoted member of UFIC, once said his fans would still enjoy his music even if he sang gospel and this is proving to be true because his songs have always been biased towards walking in the path of righteousness.

“Zora fans listen to gospel music and my music has never been insulting or vulgar,” said Zhakata. “Instead they are educational and help bring about positive up-growing in families.”

Zhakata said mixing secular and gospel music would not affect his composing capacity, but would make his lyrics more meaningful than before.
“I want to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to many nations through music,” he said.

Other musicians who performed at the family show included the Mahendere Brothers, Joyce Simeti, Gospel Power led by Lawrance Gunda and other upcoming artistes such as Hubert Chigumira.

Gospel Power performed some of their hit songs like “Tafura”, “Who is this Man?”, “Kana Zvamubata” and “Achapindura” from their current album entitled “Kunyarara”.

The stylish Mahendere Brothers gave a spectacular and energetic performance as they sang one of their well-liked songs “Psalms 23”.
UFIC spokesperson Pastor Prime Kufakunesu said they were impressed by the success registered.
He said they achieved their aim of creating a platform for bringing families together in a safe and sociable environ-                               ment.
