ZHF to hold induction workshop

Amon Madzvamuse, said this year is a turning point for the country’s handball mother body and would want everything to be done professionally as they seek to improve the status of the sport.

The national federation have had some boardroom squabbles in the past, but all seems to be settling in well and Madzvamuse said the workshop will deal with several issues, including defining the duties of the executive and individuals.

“We are having an induction workshop in two weeks time. Without that induction all our plans will go into the drain.

“We organised for this workshop to be done before we finalise on our programme for this year. It will be attended by the executive, the 10 provincial chairpersons and other handball stakeholders. We are engaging people from the Sports Commission and the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.

“After that workshop we will issue a statement that will guide us throughout to December.
“The induction workshop is there to define the roles of the council, executive and individual roles.
“Of late, we are trying to ensure that everything is moving well and is done through the right channels. In the past we would do something without following the protocol.

“This time we want to do everything professionally,” said Madzvamuse.
The ZHF boss also said that there is need for everyone to understand the national federation’s constitution if they are to successfully run the sport.

“We are guided by our constitution and we need to fully utilise our constitution, so we need to be educated and become familiar with that we are doing,” said Madzvamuse.

ZHF have already indicated their intention of reviving the sport with several regional and international tournaments lined up.

The local handball mother body received an invitation to send two national teams and two Under-16 teams to the Partille Cup in Sweden in July.

They are also expecting to take part in the Major Festive competition in Denmark.
However, their first assignment will be the Zone Six Championships scheduled for Malawi in March.

ZHF have also revealed their interest to introduce a national league that will see clubs from various provinces taking part in an effort to keep local players active throughout the year.
Madzvamuse said they will finalise their calendar of events after the workshop.
