Zifa board meet today

qualifier in Cape Verde next week and the association’s attempts to close the Asiagate chapter.
The Warriors are scheduled to leave Harare on Monday for the swim-or-sink tie against the Atlantic Ocean islanders where a victory could take them to the Nations Cup finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.

The match will be played next Saturday, the same time that Mali will play Liberia in Monrovia where failure by the Eagles to win, coupled with a victory for the Warriors, will take Norman Mapeza and his men to the Nations Cup finals.

Zifa board member Benedict Moyo raised the stakes yesterday when, writing exclusively in The Herald, he bravely declared that this could be Mission Possible.
The return of star striker Knowledge Musona is expected to give the Warriors a huge boost as they are yet to lose a match, in the current qualifiers, where the Smiling Assassin played a part.
Big striker Nyasha Mushekwi also returns to the fold, after missing the 3-0 win over Liberia because of suspension, and he scored in his last match for Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Zifa board is also expected to discuss the visit to this country by Fifa head of security, Chris Eaton, who flew out of Harare on Tuesday morning.
Eaton, who is now in Indonesia, did not meet the Zifa board but, instead, only met the investigating committee led by Ndumiso Gumede.

While the hype before Eaton’s visit appeared to centre on the possibility that he would bring the Asiagate case to finality, amid reports that he had a dossier on the Warriors and their trips to Asia, the reality is that the case appears to be with us for a very long time. Eaton said he was here to learn more about the Asiagate scandal and, rather than being the catalyst for the completion of the probe, he appeared to be going through the motions just like everyone else.

Zifa are set to name an Ethics Committee, which is expected to conclude the case, but the composition of that committee remains a mystery.
As fate might have it, some of the players who have been fingered by the Zifa Asiagate report of having played key roles in the scandal, carry the hopes of the nation in Cape Verde.
