PARTNERSHIPS with other stakeholders are a key component in accelerating the development and growth of football, Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi has said.
In an interview, Magwizi said they are building a strong institution through support from Government and partnerships with corporates.
“ZIFA can be able to achieve any of its goals as a credible, accountable and transparent institution. Football, by its very nature, grows in partnerships. The world over we are seeing that is corporates and governments that are partnering the associations. Here in Zimbabwe, the partners are coming on board and we are seeing some growth to our game. Their support by providing resources has enabled us to get our teams to competitions,” said Magwizi.
He added that these partnerships have also resulted in the capacitation of local football administrators.
“Our affiliates and local clubs are benefiting as some of their administrators have been capacitated to transform football in Zimbabwe. Partnerships with Midlands State University and FIFA/International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), an international programme in sports management, is helping us get as many adminstrators as possible to be equipped with the necessary knowhow on running football in Zimbabwe,” said the ZIFA boss.
Magwizi also hailed FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF) for implementing legacy programmes in the form of different competitions earmarked at developing the game.
