ZIFA Bulawayo Province has set April 16 as the official kick-off of this year’s Division Two and Division Three leagues.
The Francis Ntutha-led executive said the delay was as due to complaints by clubs that the 2015 season ended too early, leaving them with nothing to do for close to two months until the festive season.
“Clubs felt that our season ended rather too early last year and we had no option, but to heed their call. I think we ended our season around October last year and clubs complained bitterly about that so this year we shall start on April 16,” said Zifa Bulawayo acting chairman Ntutha.
He was optimistic that they will maintain 16 teams each in the Division Two and Three leagues, but said the actual number would be determined after the Zifa Southern Region annual board meeting tomorrow.
Three teams, How Mine, Chiwororo and Whitebirds, were promoted to Division Two and Ntutha said they were still expecting a team from the Bulawayo Amateur Football Association to join their Division Three league.
Talen Vision and Highlanders Academy were promoted from Division Two to the Zifa Southern Region Division One League.
