Beitbridge-based Tripple B who won the championship with three rounds of matches to go, ended the season in style clobbering relegated Blanket Mine 3-0 away in Gwanda.
It is the first time in the league’s short history that the championship was not decided on the last day as in the past two seasons FC Platinum (then Mimosa) won the 2010 season on the last day pipping Chapungu to the promotion ticket while Hardbody had to fight until the last day to be crowned champions last season.
“Tshintsha Magiya” as Tripple B are affectionately known by their Beitbridge fans, now join Triangle, How Mine and Black Rhinos who were also promoted from the Eastern, Southern and Northern Regions respectively.
Chapungu won the battle for second spot after accounting for Silo 1-0 at Ascot Stadium, taking their points’ tally to 58, the same number with FC Strikers but have an inferior goal difference.
Strikers, who made a no-show last weekend when they were supposed to clash with MSU, accounted for Whawha 2-0 at Dulibadzimu.
A strike from the centre area by midfielder Leslie Makusha and a goal by Sizalobuhle Dube ensured that Vavheneki ended the season on a high note. Whawha had earlier sprung a surprise the previous week when they ended Chapungu’s seven-match unbeaten run.
Zvishavane fans were treated to a 10-goal thriller as hosts FC Platinum Under-19s ran riot massacring relegated Airstars 8-2 while Vumbachikwe and Town United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
Results: Chapungu 1 – 0 Silo, FC Platinum Under-19 8 – 2 Airstars, FC Strikers 2 – 0 Whawha, Tongogara 2 – 2 MSU, Vumbachikwe 1 – 1 Town United, Chrome Stars 1 – 0 Jessie Mine, Blanket Mine 0 – 3 Tripple B
