Last weekend, FC Strikers president, Ephat Shoko lashed out at the league executive for allowing the postponement of log leaders Tripple B’s match against Hwahwa which was pencilled on the same day with Strikers’ encounter with airmen Chapungu after the log leaders had asked permission to watch the Mbada Diamonds Cup match pitting Monomotapa against Hardbody.
The Strikers president whose side now trails Tripple B by 11 points is on 37 following their 0-1 loss to Chapungu, accused the league management of giving their town rivals an unfair advantage as they went into their match against Hwahwa knowing the result they wanted. Tripple B edged Hwahwa 1-0.
Shoko said they have since written to the league executive to ask for the remainder of the matches of all clubs to be played at the same time.
“Let the best team be promoted and as such we do not want some other teams to gain an unfair advantage with the manner the league is fixturing league games.
“As such we have written a letter to the Zifa (Central Soccer League) executive asking them to fixture all matches at the same time,” Shoko said.
Chapeta, however, said he was yet to receive such a complaint but was adamant that fixtures will not be changed to have matches played at the same time.
“I am yet to see the letter but let me hasten to say that the fixture which was released at the beginning of the season still stands,” Chapeta said.
The scenario in the region is reminiscent of the 1994 Premiership championship campaign when Dynamos pipped Blackpool to the championship by goal difference after they were tied on 46 points.
Blackpool had won their match a day earlier and Glamour Boys knew that for them to win the championship they had to score more goals against the now defunct Darryn T.
DeMbare went on to win the match 3-1 with captain Memory Mucherahohwa scoring the winning goal.
Eddie Kanyangu who owns Tripple B said his team would not be deterred by utterances attributed to Strikers FC. He said they would continue to fulfill fixtures as advised by the Central Region.
“We are not part of the fixturing. If we asked to play Hwahwa on a Sunday because they had other commitments what is wrong with that? Ours is to fight to be promoted and we are doing that. We will not be distracted by issues that have nothing to do with our play on the field.
“What we are doing is winning matches on the field to help our cause and we will not want to tell Zifa how to do their things,” said Kanyangu.
