Zifa councillors behind Dube

recent weeks, with suspended Southern Region chairman, Gift Banda, torching a storm when claimed that allegations that the Zifa president paid his way to the hot seat should be investigated.
Dube has defended himself saying that the allegations are part of the mud being thrown at him for his efforts to clean a game that has been best by allegations of corruption.
Today, Dube faces the same councillors who have been accused of being part of a tainted process that brought the Harare business executive to power two years ago.
The councillors are set to throw their full weight behind Dube and back his decision to suspend five board members, in the past six months, on allegations of corruption.
The councillors will hear feedback from Dube and his board on how they have been handling the Asiagate scandal amid reports that the Ethics Commission, headed by Justice Ahmed Ibrahim, is set to start work on February 12.
Ebrahim’s committee has been tasked with conducting hearings for individuals implicated in the Asiagate scam, record evidence from the individuals and pronounce sanctions for individuals in terms of the Fifa and Zifa statutes.
The Ethics Commission is likely to give impetus to the final phase of the Asiagate scam that rocked local football in the last few years.
Already five Zifa board members – Methembe Ndlovu, Solomon Mugavazi, Kenny Marange, Gift Phiri and Patrick Hokonya – have been placed on suspension to facilitate investigations.
The trio of Ndlovu, Mugavazi and Marange were forced to go on leave pending investigations into their conduct and involvement with the national team’s trips to Asia.
Hokonya and Banda were suspended over allegations of match fixing in Division One leagues.
Yesterday’ board meeting, which spilled into the late hours, was also set to discuss the Puma deal for the senior national team.
The resolutions from the board meeting yesterday are likely to be tabled before the councillors today.
Before the general meeting, the councillors are set to take a tour of the Zifa Village.
Zifa communications manager Nicky Dhlamini yesterday said the Zifa Assembly members are set to get an update on the status of the work from the contractor.
The contractor officially handed over the second Phase of the Zifa Village under the Goal Project Two to Zifa at a ceremony witnessed by Fifa development officer for Southern and Eastern Africa, Ashford Mamelodi.
During the handover of the Zifa village on Thursday, Mamelodi threw his weight behind Dube’s efforts to clean up the image in domestic football.
