ZIFA will this evening hold a Football Trust fundraising dinner dance at a Harare hotel in a bid to mobilise funds for an awards night early next month as well as funds for the Warriors’ Chan and Nations Cup preparations.
The awards night is meant to honour individuals and organisations that have contributed to the development of Zimbabwean football over the last 50 years.
Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the holding of the dinner dance and said Andrew Langa, the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture would be the guest of honour.
“The dinner dance is on tomorrow (today) evening, besides the minister, we will also have the football trust chairman Tshinga Dube and other dignitaries.
“It’s an opportunity for the football community to meet and mingle with the new minister responsible for our sports,” said Gwesela.
Gwesela could, however, not reveal how much they expect to raise but said it could be enough to meet their budgetary needs.
The Warriors begin their preparations for the Chan finals with a friendly international against the Mambas of Mozambique at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on 8 December.
After the Chan finals in South Africa, Zimbabwe will be taking part in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The qualifiers will be played over three months, a scenario that is likely to see the cash-strapped national association struggling to raise finances for the fixtures.
