the year having been lined up.
The committee comprises professionals from various backgrounds including sports administrators, businesspeople, bankers, journalists and veteran artist Albert Nyathi.
The other people in the committee include businessman Jabulani Nkomo the son of the late Vice-President John Nkomo, Twalumba Football Club chief operating officer Miriam Sibanda, Douglas Chitongo, Martha Madziyauswa, Russel Maradza Mhirididi, Lovemore Sibanda, Tonderai Marime, Hebert Takawira, Nyarai Chasi, Ishmael Chibvunye, Marvellous Mapininga and Lovemore Banda.
The association’s president, Cuthbert Dube, said the Golden Jubilee committee will engage in various projects to reflect on Zimbabwe’s football development in the past 50 years and beyond.
The committee will among other things mobilise material and financial resources.
Zifa are also hoping to cap the year with a glittering awards ceremony where football luminaries and other various stakeholders will be awarded for their contributions to the development and success of the game during the period.
Dube said it was necessary to hold the commemorations since the game has come a long way and survived many challenges that could have brought it to its knees along the road.
“The Golden Jubilee celebrations shall see the family of football recreating value for our game and reducing all that we have had over the past 50 years and beyond into indelible historical records,” said Dube.
A series of events beginning next month with an exhibition at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair will highlight the milestone year.
The association will also establish a football Hall of Fame at the Zifa Village where football heroes will be inducted.
The celebrations will run up to December but the climax will be the awards night where players coaches, referees, administrators, corporate, national teams, clubs, media and fans will all be recognised.
“The celebrations shall afford football to engage in small to big scale projects. The projects in question shall range from celebrity concepts, production of powerful documentary on Zimbabwean football, production of memorabilia and souvenir material, mount expositions, run sms campaigns for the selection of the winners for Golden Jubilee Awards, promoting international tours, organising the awards night, establishing the Hall of Fame, maintaining a heavy football presence during the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly set for Victoria Falls in August,” Dube said.
Representative of the committee, Marvelous Mapininga, yesterday said the members have pledged to work hard to achieve the goals.
