THE Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) has sent out a condolence message to the family of former board member, Piraishe Mabhena who died on Friday.
Zifa said in a statement that they were shocked by the death of Mabhena who died at the age of 42 from what is believed to be complications from an operation he recently underwent.
At the time of his death, Mabhena was the chairperson of the First Instance Body, the committee that is responsible for enforcing club licensing and ensuring that local stadiums meet international standards.
“In this difficult moment of untold grief for the local football family, his friends and family, we pray everyone finds comfort in the knowledge that he left a huge mark on the face of local football,’’ Zifa said.
Mabhena also served as the Zifa Eastern Region chairman in the past.
“We draw some solace from the fact that he served the beautiful game with distinction and his legacy shall live on,’’ said Zifa.
Mabhena’s death came when the nation is still mourning the death of former Highlanders as well as national team midfielder Richard Choruma and FC Platinum benefactor Worthwhile Mugabe. Choruma, who died in South Africa is still yet to be buried while Mugabe was laid to rest in Bulawayo yesterday. — @Mdawini_29.
