Zifa Northern Region race hots up

Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter
THE race for promotion in the Zifa Northern Region continues this weekend with leaders ZPC Kariba hoping to consolidate their place at the top of the table. The Mashonaland West side have a seven-point lead and a win against Gunners at Lafarge this afternoon will move them closer to their dream of a place in the Premiership.

Mashonaland West has not had a Premiership side since Eiffel Wildcats collapsed and the province, which used to be the home of mighty Mhangura and Rio Tinto, now has a good chance of providing a team for the top-flight league. The Eastern Region will focus to the annual Sylvia Dube Memorial Trophy quarter-final matches.

Hippo Valley have already won the championship and Moses Chunga said he will leave the Cup assignments to his assistant Taku Shariwa. “I have played the big role of winning the championship and I will leave the rest to my assistants.

“We are gunning for both the League and Cup double and so we will take this tournament seriously as well,” said Chunga.
Bulawayo Chiefs have already won the Southern Region Division One championship while Chapungu secured the ticket from the Central Region.
