ZIFA Southern Region board member Jabulani “JB” Chinyangarara has died.
He was 47.
Chinyangarara succumbed to cancer at Mpilo Hospital yesterday morning, less than 24 hours after being admitted to the health institution. His father Kenneth Nyamhunga said Chinyangarara will be buried tomorrow at his Chinhoyi rural home.
“Jabu (Chinyangarara) wasn’t feeling well since March and his condition continued to deteriorate. We took him to Mpilo on Thursday afternoon and he passed on today (yesterday) at 8AM. He will be buried in Chinhoyi. The burial is on Sunday,” said Nyamhunga.
Chinyangarara’s body and mourners are expected to leave Bulawayo for Chinhoyi at 4AM this morning. Born on February 10, 1969, Chinyangarara became an avid Zimbabwe Saints supporter in the 1980s.
According to former Zimbabwe Saints chairman Elliot Manduna, Chinyangarara started as the club’s “errand boy” and graduated to become Chikwata’s organising secretary.
“JB was dedicated to Saints’ cause. He loved the club which he started supporting when he was an ice-cream man. He would follow the club wherever it played and after seeing his dedication and love for Chikwata, we started sending him on some errands. Whenever Saints wanted a player from outside Bulawayo, we would send him to drive and pick them up. His death is certainly a loss to football,” said Manduna.
Zifa Southern Region chairman Musa Mandaza said; “Chinyangarara was a team player. He was responsible for fixtures in the Division One Soccer League and was a hard worker. Death has robbed us a servant of the game who had all the football information on his finger tips.”
Chinyangarara is survived by wife Takesure and two daughters.
