ZIFA Statutes are silent on candidates for executive posts who also are eligible to cast votes.
Amid concerns that this gives these candidates an “unfair advantage” over their rivals, ZIFA board member, Nyasha Samanyandwe, who is a lawyer, said there was nothing to stop them voting.
The ZIFA elections will be held in Harare tomorrow.
The ZIFA executive committee will have 11 members, the president and two deputies, one of which should be a woman, as well as eight board members.
Six board members have to be voted for while the Premier Soccer League and the Women’s Premier Soccer League will second a board member.
“The whole preparations for the elections have been draining but we are almost done and we are ready to go,” said Sanyamandwe.
“Yes, the election candidates, who are members, will vote.
“As the electoral body we didn’t interpret the statutes that way and gave independence to the members.
“The statutes are not clear on prohibiting a member from voting for him or herself.
“There is nothing to stop them.”
ZIFA presidential aspirant Martin Kweza, Gilbert Saika, Tizirayi Luphahla and Tavengwa Hara are some of the candidates who will enjoy the privilege to vote and possibly cast votes for themselves.
The presidential candidates are Marshall Gore, Philemon Machana, Nqobile Magwizi, Martin Kweza, Twine Phiri and Makwinji Phir.
Those battling for the vice presidency are Mavis Gumbo, Patience Mutumwa, Winnet Murota, Joyce Kapota, Loveness Mukura, Kennedy Ndebele, Omega Sibanda, Peter Dube, Francis Nyamutsamba and James Takavada.
