EMBATTLED national football motherbody, Zifa, will today give an update on the $81,000 debt owed to former national team coach José Claudinei Georgini, popularly known as Valinhos which got the country banned from the 2018 Fifa World Cup.
Initially the debt stood at $67,000, but has ballooned due to legal costs.
A fortnight ago the Premier Soccer League released $65,000 which was outstanding levy, player registration and licensing fees from last year. Expectations were high that a huge chunk of that amount would be directed towards clearing the Valinhos debt.
Xolisani Gwesela, the Zifa spokesman yesterday said the national football body will today update the nation on that debt following the return of its officials from the Caf 37th General Assembly held in Egypt.
Zifa president Cuthbert Dube, chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze and board member John Phiri returned from Egypt yesterday afternoon.
“I’ve been advised that an update about the questions you’re asking will be made tomorrow,” said Gwesela.
