There are seven items on the agenda for today’s meeting. A week ago, it was announced that 30 players were cleared of any wrong doing but their names are yet to be released.
Zifa promised to release the names soon after today’s meeting.
The association’s communications manager Nicky Moyo-Dhlamini told Chronicle Sport that while today’s meeting was not necessarily about Asiagate, Zifa was expected to release the names of the players that were cleared by the Justice Ahmed Ebrahim led Ethics Committee.
“We expect the names of the cleared players to be released soon after the meeting,” said Moyo-Dhlamini.
More than 100 players and officials were suspended from national team activities by the Cuthbert Dube led Zifa board for their alleged involvement in the shamed Far East Tours.
The suspensions came after the Ndumiso Gumede led investigations committee submitted a report on its findings to the Zifa board.
Some Zifa board members were also suspended as a result of the same report and these include Zifa vice-president, Kenny Marange, board members Methembe Ndlovu and Solomon Mugavazi.
Today’s meeting is expected to, among other things, discuss the Asiagate report in general, the local match-fixing scandal report dubbed the Centralgate that saw Zifa regional chairmen, Gift Banda for Southern Region and Patrick Hokonya for Central Region, being suspended. The deputy president of the Zimbabwe Referees Committee, Samukeliso Silengane and match commissioner Cosmas Nyoni were also suspended as a result of the Centralgate scandal.
The other issues to be discussed include the Warriors’ road to the Nations Cup finals in South Africa next year as well as the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The issue of the Warriors’ head coach is likely to be finalised today and by the end of the day Rahman Gumbo who is acting head coach following the suspension of Norman Mapeza, will know his fate.
Zifa needs to quickly finalise the issue of the national coach as time is running out given the fact that the return leg of the Nations Cup qualifier against Burundi is set for next month.
