Zifa under fire for embarassing the nation

HARARE. — ZIFA has come under fire for embarrassing the nation by undertaking an impossible 2017 AFCON bid which was clearly out of its reach. Analysts say ZIFA’s decision to bid for the 2017 AFCON was irrational and had as its main objective hinged on embarrassing the nation. The analysts say there was no point in going ahead with the bid considering Zimbabwe did not meet any of the Confederation of African Football’s requirements and agreeing to submit one was a fruitless effort to have something positive coming from the football institution in the midst of all its failures.

“The fact that we were coaxing Zambia and Botswana for a joint bid meant we ourselves knew we alone were not able to host.
“We do not have the facilities, we do not have the money, we did not meet the requirements of having previously hosted and having readily available facilities.

“We were talking of building facilities and for me what it means is that ZIFA wanted to just embarrass the nation by going along with their wishful thinking,” said one football fan in Harare.

Another fan said ZIFA wanted to divert the attention of the nation from their failure.
“ZIFA wanted to appear like they had something positive they were doing and did not mind the result.

“Maybe they want to divert our attention from the chaos of failure that surrounded them and by so, doing they took their luck too far by attempting something that they knew was not going to materialise,” said another football fan.

The Sport, Arts and Culture Ministry, together with the Tourism and Hospitality Industry Ministry were behind the embarrassing bid that has humiliated the nation to the whole world.

Zimbabwe’s bid was thrown out alongside those from Kenya and Sudan, endorsing the shame that the media vehemently tried to avoid by voicing their concerns over the decision. — ZBC
