Nigel Munyati, the spokesperson of ZIFF, said a 12-member board of trustees had been set up to improve the running of the festival.
“The new board comprises founding trustees Rachel Kupara, Dan Jawitz, Nigel Munyati and Joel Phiri, Nocks Chatiza, Stephen Chigorimbo, researcher Joyce Jenje-Makwenda, actor and social justice activist Daves Guzha and animation specialist Simbirirai Solomon Maramba.
“Others are Isabella Matambanadzo, Joanna Powell and John Stewart,” said Munyati
The new board will inject new energy and dynamic impetuses that will take ZIFF out of the quagmire that had bedevilled the industry over the past three years.
“The new board went on a retreat for strategic planning, realigning the ZIFF vision, mission and restructuring to achieve the new thrust.
“The trustees have resolved to host an abridged film festival in October that will profile the trust’s sterling work over the past 16 years.
“The theme and detailed programme will be released in due course,” Munyati said.
The festival will include international and local short films.
The venues will be in Harare, Mutare, Norton and Bulawayo.
Munyati also highlighted that the new board of trustees’ focus was on execution of all programme elements that include the short film programme, the film forum, and outreach to take films to the high-density and rural areas.
The festival will also include children’s participation in filmmaking.
A new and critically important strategic focus will be on institutional innovation to take full advantage of the fast evolving world of internet-driven digital communications.
