ZiG211 million allocated for free sanitary wear in public schools

The Budgetary allocation for the procurement and distribution of sanitary wear for girls in public schools has been more than doubled from ZiG85 million to ZiG211 million.

This initiative aims to combat period poverty and ensure that no girl misses school due to a lack of proper menstrual products and pain    management.

The increment comes amid growing pressure from stakeholders advocating for a total budget of ZiG396 million for next year to cater to an estimated 550 000 school-going girls in need of sanitary wear.

Prof Mthuli Ncube, in his address to the National Assembly early this week, affirmed Treasury’s commitment to funding the education sector, about 20 percent of the budget in line with the Dakar Declaration on Education.
