The squad selected for this series will battle it out in the 50-over format in a week-long series that also includes South Africa.
South Africa bought a mixed and experienced team with eight players that were in the Proteas T20 squad that lost to Zimbabwe last month in the Pran AFL series.
Zimbabwe will go into the series with a depleted side after the loss of a couple of seasoned players through injuries and lack of match fitness.
Foster Mutizwa and all-rounder Glen Querl failed to make it into the team due to injury and contractual obligations and Natsai Mushangwe was axed from the squad after he failed to turn up for the Pran AFL series last month.
Zimbabwe A side coach Steven Mangongo is confident of a good account from the team and expects tough matches from some of the best teams in the World: South Africa and Sri Lanka.
“We are well aware of our opponents and we are not taking them lightly and since we will be playing at home we hope to take full advantage of that and emulate what the senior side did last month.
“One-day cricket is about discipline and we want to account ourselves well on the bat and with the ball as the team that puts enough runs on the board will win the match,” said Mangongo.
Mangongo also highlighted the need for players selected to work hard and prove their mettle if they want to be considered for senior side’s selection.
“In all A sides the objective is to perform well and put yourself in contention for the senior side and that what l expect from the players during this series”.
