Zim ace wins ITF Junior Open Two

RUFARO Magarira won the girls’ J4 ITF Junior Open Two that ended in Kenya last weekend.
The rising tennis sensation had lost in the final of the first-leg 3-6, 4-6 to American Cleo Hutchinson a fortnight ago, but came good at the weekend.
Magarira brought her A game to the weekend’s final to overcome top seed Arina Valitova 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
On her way to the final, Magarira had dispatched Johanna Hiesmeair 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-final.
Other Zimbabweans that took part in the competition include Tadiwanashe Mauchi, who lost 3-6, 3-6 in the quarter-finals to Valitova,
Kudzai Chapepa, who could not make it past the first-round, losing 2-6, 6-4, 4-6 to Nepal’s Abhilasha Bista.
Meanwhile, the International Tennis Federation has postponed the Cranrid – ITF South Central Zim Leg 4 tournament since the Sports and Recreation Commission placed a blanket ban on all sporting activities in Zimbabwe indefinitely.
The first-leg of the tournament was scheduled to run from July 26-31 in Harare, while the second-leg was set for August 2-7.
