Zim athletes fail to travel for Angola race

According to the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) the two failed to get supporting letters to enable them to get visas.

The development made it futile for the sponsor to fund air tickets as no airline would have admitted them on any flight without visas or assurances that they would get them at the port of entry.
Naaz boss Joseph Mungwari confirmed the sad development for local athletics yesterday.

“The two athletes did not receive air tickets or at least the letter of assurance about the visas from the organisers as is the norm.
“It is the visa assurance letter which could have seen the association getting them air tickets for possible refund upon arrival. The trip has flopped,” said Mungwari.

The duo was initially expected in Angola on Wednesday for the  race.

South Africa-based Nyahora had been selected after dominating  races especially in South Africa while Juwawo’s showing in Korea last month got him the recognition.
This is not the first time Zimbabwe athletes have failed to travel to Angola where Samukeliso Moyo won thrice.
