Zim b/ball teams for Hamburg

THE Zimbabwe basketball team will use their invite by the Hamburg Basketball Association to warm up for the upcoming Afro-Basketball competition in Tunisia in August.

The Zimbabwe team will tour Germany from July 31 to August 17 as part of an exchange programme.

Zimbabwe competed against South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and powerhouses Angola on their way to booking a place in the Afro-Basketball and All-Africa Games.

The event was held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in February.

The senior women team was under the guidance of Laddie Munetsi who was assisted by Under-20 women’s coach, Sam Mutsvanga.

Chewie Gilbert and his assistant Emmanuel Mukandi, the former national basketball and rugby team player, were the senior men’s team coaches.

Zimbabwe managed to win the tournament to book a slot in the All-Africa Games which will be held in Congo, Brazzaville, from September 4 to 19.

In the men’s team, Zimbabwe will look up to Vitalis Chikoko, who is based in Germany, while Julian Mavunga and Sternard Mapurisa ply their trade in Italy and South Africa.

Tawanda Chitsinde, Nyasha Ngove, Benjamin Jani, Tatenda Mutukure, Billy Melusi, Taurai Chitsinde and Andrew Gonese were in the men’s team that qualified.
