Mureza Auto Company, which was co-founded by Zimbabwe-born and CEO Tatenda Mungofa, says it will start designing and manufacturing of vehicles in South Africa in the coming year 2021.

In a statement on Tuesday morning, the company, which will operate from Rosslyn, Pretoria said it plans to start production of its first model-the Prim8 with an annual target of 12,000 units once production starts.

“1000 direct jobs are expected to be created to handle the production demand,” reads part of the statement posted on its twitter handle https://twitter.com/CoMureza/status/1333642312187076608.

Mureza plans to start assembly of semi knocked-down kits of the Prim8, which will carry up to 40 percent locally manufactured components.

These components include windows, upholstery, dashboard, wheels, electronics, and suspension.

This will boost SME component suppliers in the industry and encourages the creation of employment in the local value chain, the company said.

“We have also identified a skills gap within the industry and we want to be part of the solution in ensuring that the appropriate are aligned with industry transformation.

Mureza says it has also already mobilised dealerships in Nambia and Zimbabwe.

Africa is the final frontier of the automotive industry, Mureza noted amid plans to also manufacture electric vehicles in the near future.
