Zim Bowling team named

The tournament has been scheduled for September 8 to 14.
Zimbabwe will be represented by the Masters defending champion Tom Craven, Nationals champion Roy Garden, Clive Robertson and Mike Eaton.

Pierre De Villiers is the only new bowler who has been added to the men’s squad while Manuel Silva has been dropped.

De Villiers was last selected for Africa States a few years ago.
The Fours team will feature Craven, Robertson, De Villiers and Mike Eaton while the Trips will have Craven, Robertson and De Villiers.

Garden and Eaton will play the Pairs and Garden will also play in the Singles men’s section.
One of the selectors, Richie Hayden, said the selection was done on merit after considering the players’ performance at the recent Masters tournament.

“The team’s selection was done on merit and I am happy with the squad. It’s only De Villiers who is new in the men’s section that took part at last year’s Africa State .

“We believe in our squad and I will be meeting the bowlers next week so that we can get started and arrange the practice days, “said Hayden.

In the women’s category, first-time Masters champion Mel James has made it to the national team.
James will play the Fours with Heather Singleton, Kerry Craven and former defending champion Ally Dale.

James will also feature in the Pairs with Jane Rigby.
“I am so excited and am looking forward to the tournament. This will be a dream come true, being part of the national team and representing Zimbabwe is such an honour,” said James.

“If my dad was alive he was going to be so proud of me, all my family is happy, my mother is so glad and I will give it my best shot to try and grab medals.”
