ALL is set for the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union’s last tournament of the season, the Zimbabwe Closed Championships at Dangamvura High in Mutare today and tomorrow.
The tournament will see four sections competing for medals in the country’s annual tournament.
Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union president Noah Ferenando said they are looking forward to a successful tournament as all the provinces have confirmed their availability.
“We are going to host our last event on the 2023 calendar the Zimbabwe Closed championship at Dangamvura in Mutare (tomorrow (today) and on Sunday. The tournament is one of the biggest on our calendar and is always competitive.
“We will have players in the Under-10, Under-15, Under-21 boys and girls and the open section. The tournament brings together players from across the country and we will have top players.
“The tournament carries some national points so International Table Tennis Federation rules apply. We have already closed the registration on December 5 and we have had a good response,” said Ferenando.
The Zimbabwe Closed Championship is likely to see veteran table tennis players Vikram Singh Tinotenda Fambira and Tatenda Mumvuma in the open section among several others.
The women’s open category will have seasoned campaigners Gamuchirai Shumba, Vongai Zhuwakimu while the juniors is likely Matidaishe Goredema Anofara Nyamiti and Princess Tichivangani Kundai Goremusandu, Delight Mutanda, Tatenda Tumire, Tapiwa Musarurwa among.
