Zim Covid-19 caseload grows

THE country yesterday recorded 30 new Covid-19 positive cases bringing the total number of cases to 1 064 as the death toll rose to 20.

The latest death was reported in Matabeleland South province.

Harare province recorded 27 new cases, 13 of them imported while 14 were local transmissions.

Two cases were reported in in Matabeleland North province, one local transmission and one imported case. Manicaland recorded one new case, a local transmission.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said all the new cases have been put under isolation.

The new cases include seven returnees from South Africa, one from Zambia and three each from Botswana and Lesotho.

16 local transmission cases were recorded; seven are contacts of known confirmed cases, while the infection source for the rest of the cases is still under investigation.

“Today we regret to report a death at facility level. The death occurred in Matabeleland South Province and is of a child who was admitted into hospital on July 11 2020 with severe pneumonia. New recoveries were reported by Bulawayo, (49) and Mat North (3),” said the ministry in a statement.
