adminTHE Zimbabwe cricket team returned from Bangladesh last night after a tour of almost two months, the country’s longest in more than a decade.
Four players remained behind in the Bangladesh capital to take part in the Walton Refrigerator Dhaka Premier Division League, which is the country’s 50-over domestic competition.
The four are One-Day International captain Elton Chigumbura, Test skipper Brendan Taylor, top-order batsman Hamilton Masakadza and all-rounder Solomon Mire who impressed during the tour of Bangladesh when he made his ODI debut playing in all the five matches of the series and made two half centuries.
Chigumbura will turn out for Prime Doleshwar Sports Club, Taylor for Prime Bank Cricket Club, Masakadza for Abahani Limited and Mire Mohammedan Sports Club.
Mire will play only two games for his team before returning to his base in Melbourne tomorrow, while the rest of the players will return to Zimbabwe on December 23.
Mire played for Mohammedan yesterday, in a match they won by eight runs against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
His team, captained by the Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, won the toss and elected to bat first. They amassed 185 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
Mire batted at six and made 19 runs off 29 balls. Naeem Islam top-scored with 57.
In reply, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were bowled out for 177 despite a fighting 89 from Shahriah Nafees. Mire bowled just one over, which went for 12 runs, and Islam was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 21 runs in nine overs. — Zimcricket.
