Zimbabwe kept their hopes of qualifying for next year’s AFCON finals when they completed back-to-back wins over Namibia in a Group J match at Orlando Stadium in South Africa on Monday evening.
Walter Musona scored a brace in the second half and substitute Prince Dube put the icing on the cake with a cool finish late on to ignite wild scenes of celebrations among the predominantly Zimbabwean fans.
The fans were shut out of the first leg which Zimbabwe won 1-0 last Thursday at the same venue and tonight they cheered every move as Zimbabwean players seized the last 45 minutes to prove their class.
Musona beat retreating goalkeeper Edward Maova with a high ball on the 50th minute before returning after to beat the keeper from the spot after a handball in the Namibia penalty box.
Maova was forced to make an excellent save in the 78th minute from Jordan Zemura’s curling left footer and Terrence Dzvukamanja was a shed late to pounce on the rebound.
But Prince Dube was at the right place at the right moment when Zemura made a good run down the left flank and sent in a low cross that evaded the
Namibian defence, for the Tanzania based forward to control and smash the ball home in the 89th minute.
But Edwin Eiseb scored the consolation for the Namibians following a defensive error by Gerald Takwara, who had barely put a foot wrong the whole game.
