TALENTED young Zimbabwean cyclist Skye Davidson won a bronze medal at the 2015 African Continental Championships time trial race held in Wartburg in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on Monday.Davidson competed in the 24KM junior women’s individual time trial and finished third in 46 minutes 50.92 seconds behind South Africans Frances du Toit who won the race in 44 minutes 13.27 seconds with teammate Benson Lynette finishing second in 45 minutes 53.5 seconds.
Davidson said she is happy to have won bronze and is looking forward to doing better in her next race today.
“I’m very happy to have won bronze obviously. But I think that as a team we can do better and will do our best to get more medals in the coming races,” said Davidson yesterday.
Team Zimbabwe comprises nine cyclists, three elite men, one woman in the elite category, three Under-18 junior men, two Under-18 junior women, coach Linda Davidson, mechanic Ant Greenway, team managers Miguel dos Santos and Clifford Kee-Tui.
Kee-Tui said the athletes prepared well for the competition and deserve more medals.
“The cyclists have trained hard to get this far with their commitment shown throughout the year. We deserve more awards,” said Kee-Tui.
The team manager thanked Food 4 Less, B & S Trucks, Fortwell Wholesalers, Glass Services, Letaba Pumps, Barons Motor Spares, Pump & Steel, Mavako Transport, Mansed, Bus and Truck Hospital, Addicts Mtb Club, Lounge Lizards and various other individuals both in Bulawayo and Harare who contributed to the team making it to South Africa.
Zimbabwe team coach Davidson said she was confident that the team would do well today.
