A Zimbabwean delegation is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the Second Climate Week meeting, which sets the tone for the upcoming Africa Climate Summit (ACS2).
Environment, Climate and Wildlife Ministry Permanent Secretary Ambassador Tadeous Chifamba said the meeting started on September 1 and will run up to September 6 under the theme: “Dialogues for Ambition and Implementation.”
“The real issue here is to discuss and consolidate Africa’s position ahead of CoP30, which will be held later on in the year in Brazil,” he said.
“Some of the key issues up for discussion involve coming up with nature based as well as technology based solutions to deal with issues of mitigation and adaptation. We will also discuss the whole spectrum of climate financing that is critical to the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).”
Co-organised by Ethiopia and the UNFCCC, this pivotal gathering sets the stage for the upcoming Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), from September 8 to September 10, 2025, which will spotlight “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development.”
“Zimbabwe is proud to be part of this continental moment, and we hope to make our contributions to Africa’s position for COP30,” Ambassador Chifamba said.
The delegation is made up of legislators and government officials.
The team joins fellow African leaders, policymakers, experts, and civil society actors in advancing climate ambition and showcasing locally driven solutions aligned with the Paris Agreement.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in high-level consultations, exhibitions, side events, and networking sessions designed to turn climate commitments into concrete action.
COP30, the upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change conference, will be held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10 to November 21, 2025.
