Zim, Denmark in cultural exchange programme

Young performers affiliated to Children’s Performing Arts Workshop are taking part in an exciting cultural exchange programme with children from Denmark. The programme began on October 9 and will run until October 19.

Children from the two countries are working together in the project that is themed “Dream Chasers”. Chipawo manager Chipo Basopo said the trust prioritises children’s projects and this will be a great opportunity for the young artists.

“The children from Denmark aged between 11 and 15 will collaborate with Zimbabweans and showcase cultural performances through theatre, music and dance. During the exchange, the children will visit areas of historical importance and heritage sites found in Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

“Chipawo values children. It works to ensure that through the arts, they are mentored to develop and grow up as harmonious human beings that promote free expression.

“The intended value of the programme is to allow children, on their own, to raise awareness on areas of child labour, early child marriages and sexual reproductive health.

“Children will also show expressions about society and speak about their socio-economic, educational and cultural rights while exposing their talents to diverse audiences,” said Basopo in a statement.

Danish outfit B & U Svendborg Theatre Group will present a play entitled “Everybody Has a Dream, What’s Your Dream”, a story about four children on a journey to find their dreams. It is a dangerous and great journey through the Danish landscape.

Chipawo represented by Harare Junior Theatre, Girl Power, and SOS Waterfalls amongst many others, will present a play entitled “Living Dream”, a story about how they have explored the world through arts and culture and the beautiful things they have seen, the exposure and memories.

There was a special play by Chipawo Girl Power to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11.The Exchange programme is being financed by Culture Fund in partnership with Denmark’s foreign affairs ministry.
