Zim elected into ILO

Session of the International Labour Conference being held in Geneva, Switzerland.
According to the ILO website, the Government Election College, representative of numerous countries governing structures, voted in favour of Zimbabwe to become the latest addition to the ILO governing body.

Zimbabwe received 175 votes to South Africa’s 128 votes.
The ILO governing body consists of 56 titular members (28 governments, 14 employers and 14 workers and 66 deputy members (28 governments, 19 employers and 19 workers).

Ten of the titular government seats are permanently held by States of chief industrial importance, namely Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Other Government members are elected at the conference every three years and the employer and worker members are elected in their individual capacities.
