Zifa board member for competitions Benedict Moyo, who is also the 2011 Cosafa Women’s Championships competition director, emerged from a Local Organising Committee meeting last night to announce that the host association had absorbed the costs of entry for today’s match.
This, Moyo said, had been done in order to afford local fans a chance to “welcome Fifa president Sepp Blatter” who is expected to arrive in the country today and will watch the match.
There were also indications last night that President Mugabe is also likely to watch the Mighty Warriors’ showdown with Malawi.
“We want to give a gift to Zimbabweans and as Zifa we are paying for everyone for only tomorrow’s match. As a goodwill gesture we want them to have a chance to welcome the Fifa president,” Moyo said.
Moyo, however, said gates at Rufaro would be closed at 2pm as part of crowd control measures.
“All the gates will close at 2pm and I urge schoolchildren to be there early in order to go to their special bays. We are also urging even the invited guests to be seated by 2pm. We are closing the gates an hour before the game for safety reasons because Rufaro can only accommodate a limited number of people,” Moyo said.
