At least US$5 000 will be awarded to next year’s Zim Got Talent winner, an official has said. The deputy chairman of the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe, Zivanayi Steve Zhao, said the talent search show will be bigger and better next year. “This year’s show was planned in a short period of time but nevertheless we had a full house on the finals and everything went according to plan. And since we have ample time to plan for next year we are promising something bigger and better,” he said.
He said the aim of the show was to assist talented Zimbabweans from disadvantaged backgrounds.
“We discovered that Zimbabwe has a lot of talent that is lying idle because of lack of resources. For instance, there are a number of talented children who are dropping put of school because of the economic hardships. We want to help those children by paying their fees and making sure that their talent is nurtured,” he said.
Zhao said they were working on making sure that their promise of taking the winners of Zim Got Talent 2014 to the Republic of China for a cultural exchange programme is fulfilled.
Zim Got Talent 2014 winner Divine Chitubira, who has since released an album, applauded the Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe and stakeholders who came up with the initiative saying they made his dream come true.
“I was once just an ordinary boy from Magunje but Zim Got Talent opened doors for me as a musician and I have released an album, something that I have always dreamt of. I am also having a number of shows across the country and I am so grateful,” he said.
