ZIMBABWE will be gunning for gold in the five-day Confederation of Schools’ Sports Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) ball games in all events.

The ball games will be held in Bulawayo from August 26-30.

Nash vice-president Arthur Maphosa said they were aiming to improve on last year’s performance when they emerged second to Botswana at the games held in Zambia.

“Our confidence is very high and we are fully prepared this year. Our aim is to see our girls’ volleyball team winning gold.

“Playing at home will also be a major boost,” said Maphosa.

The boys’ volleyball team won gold and the girls’ could only manage bronze in last year’s event, but the inclusion of four players from Mnene High School, who were part of the winning Nash Under-17 national championships, the girls will go into the tournament as favourites.

Izabel Molebaleng and Rufaro Matekenya are the Mnene stars that are expected to lead Zimbabwe’s quest for gold.

Team Zimbabwe’s boys’ and girls’ teams won gold in the basketball competition while all the netball teams settled for silver.

The Under-13 boys’ football team also beat hosts Zambia 3-1 to win to win gold in 2014.
