ZIMBABWE juniors scooped a silver in the overall artistic when the Zone VI Gymnastics Championships got underway yesterday at the Belvedere Technical Teachers’ College Gymnasium. But the hosts had to contend with being second best on the opening day that was dominated by neighbours South Africa.
Zimbabwe made a promising start, though, and the hosts are hoping to continue with their momentum as the competition enters its second day this morning.
On Bars, Zimbabwe’s Jesse Ansley was very close to winning a silver medal but she could only but settle for a bronze medal behind South Africa’s Louise de Villiers.
Zimbabwe Gymnastics Association Artistic women coach Kyle Rogers said he was happy with his team’s performance.
Rebecca Cornor is the youngest gymnast in the Zimbabwe team.
“I was very happy with our performance. It was tremendous, all the participants in artistic did well and I am so proud of them.
