Zim has got talent

International Conference Centre witnessed the geniuses of Zimbabwean afro-jazz and mbira music who included Chiwoniso Maraire, Willis Wataffi, Diana Samkange and Victor Kunonga.
Revellers were already in party mood before Zahara went on stage as Maraire, Kunonga, Wataffi and Samkange rose to the occasion and wowed patrons with enthralling acts.
Samkange kicked off the gig with a sublime performance and dedicated her playlist to the fallen heroes in the music industry, before setting the house on fire with the late Prince Tendai’s rendition “Character”.
Wataffi added more fire when he   sang “Wanga” to the delight of many a music follower.
“I am happy to be sharing the stage with Zahara. The show also proved that Zimbabwe has talent, ” Wataffi said.
However, it was one Baba Shupi of “Godo” fame, who put the icing to the cake with his well-choreographed performance, which had people up and dancing.
Zahara then took to the stage, and expertly took revellers on a musical journey when she sang the ever popular track “Umthwalo” and the HICC exploded.
The crowd could not resist singing along to the soothing sounds of the Eastern Cape-born singer.
Zahara surprised many when she sang in fluent Shona, a song that features George Munetsi, a Zimbabwean-born disc jockey based in South Africa.
However, Munetsi was unable to attend the show.
Zahara’s debut album, “Loliwe”, was released in 2011 and was sold out within 72 hours. Nineteen days later the album reached double platinum status in South Africa when it surpassed 100 000 sales and made her the second musician after The “Queen of Pop” Brenda Fassie to reach this figure in such record time.
Since then, she has scooped several awards.
