ORGANISERS of the Zimbabwe Hip Hop Awards will today unveil nominees for the 11th edition of the event taking place in Bulawayo.
The awards will be held on December 11 at the Bulawayo Theatre, the second time that the awards will be held in the City of Kings and Queens.
Nominees will be revealed at 4PM on the Zim Hip Awards social media pages through a virtual ceremony being held under the theme “Culture breaking boundaries”.
Founder of the Zim Hip Hop Awards, Aldrian “Beefy” Harrison said the awards, in the coming years, will cascade to other cities and towns as they are on a quest to grow the hip hop industry.
“We’re hosting the awards in Bulawayo because it’s a city rich in arts culture. The hip hop genre has done very well in Bulawayo over the years and I believe that the genre does not belong to one city hence the need to spread the growth of hip hop in Zimbabwe by taking the event to other cities,” said Beefy.
He said spreading the awards to other cities is also a great way of uniting artistes in the genre and growing the culture.
“The success of the brand has been driven by passion and true love for the culture. We now have a solid foundation and we’re on our way up,” Beefy said.
The organiser added that the decade-long journey has been one filled with ups and downs.
“It’s been a very long journey as there’ve been a lot of ups and downs, but we’ve kept on moving forward. I can’t say we’ve had failures, maybe setbacks caused by a lack of finance and structures.
“Hip hop is a genre associated with a lot of negative connotations and this has been a major setback but we’ve thrived and found ourselves on major platforms in Zimbabwe such as winning business awards and partnering many international brands.” – @mthabisi_mthire
