Allen Khumalo, Sports Reporter
THE Zimbabwe ladies’ hockey team has been drawn in Group B with defending champions China in the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 6-18.

Other teams in the group are Namibia, Australia, Mexico and Poland.

The event, which is held after every four years, will see Argentina vying for the title with Austria, India, South Africa, Uruguay and Vanuatu in Group A.

Having qualified as the third best team on the continent, the Zimbabwe ladies face a tough task against China, who won the 2014 event.

Zimbabwe began their journey in the African Youth Games held in Algeria in July, with a 0-4 loss to Ghana. They drew 3-3 against South Africa in their second match and registered another 3-3 stalemate against Namibia before turning on the power to dismiss Nigeria 4-0 followed by an emphatic 10-0 demolition of host nation Algeria to set up a semi-final duel with South Africa.

They were beaten 2-0 by South Africa in the semi-finals, but went on to beat Ghana 2-1 in the bronze medal match.
Draw

Pool A: Argentina, Austria, India, South Africa, Uruguay, Vanuatu

Pool B: Australia, China, Mexico, Namibia, Poland, Zimbabwe
