Zimbabwe yesterday joined Rwanda in celebrating the 29th anniversary of the liberation of Rwanda with Acting Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira taking stock of the benefits derived from collaboration between the two countries.
Every July 4, Rwanda marks its liberation day to mark the day the Rwanda Patrotic Front bravely liberated the country and stopped the genocide against the Tutsi minority and moderate Hutus.
The official theme for this year’s celebration dubbed “Kwibohora29” was, “Together we Prosper ”.
Speaking at the Rwandan Embassy in Harare, Minister Murwira said just as the theme “Together we prosper” the two countries had accomplished a great deal of success together.
“To take just some of the latest examples of what we have accomplished collectively, we have in mind the three additional memoranda of understanding in science and technology, national housing, and women’s empowerment that were signed in May 2023 during the 2nd Session of the Zimbabwe Rwanda Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation.”
“We are also making commendable headway in implementing our MoU on the exchange of educational personnel and expertise and, just a few days ago, the Government of Zimbabwe undertook to complement the Government of Rwanda’s National Food Nutrition and Security Programme by exporting some maize grain.”
“All such efforts demonstrate clearly, the value that we both attach to our bilateral relationship. Therefore, we must continue to take a more proactive stance and use the political will of our two heads of state to implement all our joint commitments and ensure that the fraternal bonds between our peoples continue to flourish,” said Minister Murwira. Rwandan Ambassador James Musoni commended the two countries’ presidents saying they had immensely contributed to the bilateral relations.
“The relationship between our two countries is grounded in a shared history and common vision for our countries’ prosperity and regional stability.”
“Over the years the relationship between our countries has grown and strengthened. We applaud our Presidents, H.E Paul Kagame and H.E E.D Mnangagwa for their visionary leadership that has paved a way for the existing excellent bilateral relationship,” said Ambassador Musoni.
The Ambassador also expressed gratitude to the people and government of Zimbabwe for the solidarity and comforting messages following the recent loss of lives caused by landslides and floods in most parts of Rwanda in May 2023.
The liberation day of Rwanda celebrations at their embassy in Harare was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, Zimbabwean government officials, and Rwandese citizens living in Zimbabwe among other delegates.
