ZIMBABWE’S karatekas left a mark at the 1st Kyokushin Kenbukaikan World Championship over the weekend after claiming 14 medals in Lusaka, Zambia.
The team competing under the Zimbabwe Karate Union banner, won seven gold, five silver and two bronze medals across the different categories.
Some of the highlights from the tournament include Zimbabwe, dominating the Men and Women’s Open categories.
Alfred Kaseke walked away with the top prize in the Men Open division and Tatenda Kambarami rose to the occasion in the women’s section.
Simbarashe Khumba fought his way to gold in the Men Under-80kg. It was the same story for Tafadzwa Mutize in the Men Under-70kg.
Malawi, Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa, Tunisia, Russia, Rwanda, Poland, United Kingdom, Spain and Zimbabwe joined the hosts, Zambia for the tournament.
